Blackboard Scholar in Online@UT: A How-To Guide

About Blackboard Scholar | Saving Resources in Bb Scholar | Course Integration in Bb Scholar

Course Integration

Blackboard Scholar resources can be integrated into an Online@UT course. They can be used to:
  • Share the instructor’s collection of web resources with students.
  • Build class resource repository and reuse it in the next semester or another course site.
  • Have students add web resources and evaluate them.
Read about Social Bookmarking Strategies for Interactive Learning by clicking here.

Register Course

To start sharing resources within a course site, you need to register the course with Blackboard Scholar.
  • Select your course, then Course Tools.
  • Select Scholar Course Home.
  • Select a discipline in the Register the Course form.
  • Click “Register Course.”

Access Course Page

A Scholar Course Home page is only viewable by students and instructors in a course. It is accessible only via Online@UT and only from within the course. Course Tags are only viewable by students and instructors in a course. Only instructor can customize the course page.

Customize Course Page

To start sharing resources within a course, create a stream, which is a saved search based on certain tags. The tags determine what resources will be displayed in a list. Here is an example how to create a course collection of resources saved by instructors of “Instructional Technology” in Scholar.
  • Under Course Tools, select Scholar Course Home.
  • Select the Advanced Search button.
  • Next to Discipline Tags, select “Instructional Technology” in the drop-down menu.
  • Press the Add Criteria button.
  • Select the User Role option.
  • In the displayed User Role drop-down menu, select “Instructor”.
  • Press the Search button at the bottom of the page.
  • Next to the header “Search Results from All Bookmarks,” select the Save button. A few options will be displayed.
  • Type the Search name, select the Add to Scholar Course Home, enter the number of results to display per page, and press Save.
  • Press on the Course tab at the top to reload the Couse Home page. The created stream will be displayed at the top.
Some other examples of streams are:
  • Course Resources: a stream based on the Course tag (shows all items that all class members save with the Course Tag).
  • Instructor Resources: a stream based on the Course tag and the instructor’s user name (shows all items saved by the instructor only, with the Course Tag).
  • Student Resources: a stream based on a Course tag and the student role (shows items saved by students of the class).
  • Discipline Resources: a stream based on the Discipline Tag (shows all items that are saved by any user of Scholar with the Discipline Tag e.g., Biology).
